Crochet So Fine: Exquisite Designs with Fine Yarns Reviews
I absolutely love the designs in this book. Unfortunately I've had to undo, redo, and come up with my best fix to the multiple mistakes in the written patterns and lack of clear instructions. I've looked at the addendum but it doesn't come close to addressing the issues I've come across.
I have been mostly a knitter, but recently I have been challenging myself with increasingly difficult crochet patterns. I use both charts and written patterns and I find that combining the two makes cracking the code easier. There are several patterns in this book that I am enjoying. The dragonfly shawl was the first one I attempted. There are always patterns you pass on, because they do not hold appeal. However, there is enough here for me to appreciate and to add to my own personal learning curve. I am also getting to experiment with thinner yarns and threads. I am not a fan of clunky, chunky crochet garments. I think crochet is really in it's element with the delicate patterns contained in this book. I would recommend this for people of the same mindset.
This Crochet So Fine came in the time suggested. And in Very Good Condition. Like the idea-it was a Library book and got only slight wear. Most of the designs don't look that difficult for me. Since, I've made intricate doilies, many Extremely Large.. And now trying my hand at Crocheted Clothing. I like the fact that the directions are both written out and diagramed. I tend to adjust the pattern & stitch requirements depending on the type of crochet thread used and size. Overall, looks like a excellent book for me to make some Summer clothes. Looking forward to wearing them in the future.
My book came today and I'm so stoked to start on making something beautiful and timeless. The book has nice medium print and lovely pictures with illustrations of instructions. There are several 1900s style motif patterns in the book applying them to modern fashion pieces. This was a great buy! Crocheting creates beauty that will be priceless. Thanks Amazon for offering treasures like these books. (I purchased several)
The designs in this book are great, no question about that; the instructions leave something to be desired as do the charts. The written instructions , in an attempt to be clear, use far too many words to explain everything, thus becoming cumbersome. The written instructions, at least in one case, do not match the charted design. The charts for some of the designs are very small and in at least one instance, do not show the complete design. Do not recommend this for a novice or inexperienced crocheter.
Esp look at the River Tunic??? Not sure if name is correct but that is so awesome! Love that it uses some hairpin lace that I have only recently been learning and truly opens my mind to many different ideas! If you like boring---don't buy this! If you want something that encourages you to expand what you may already know into something truly remarkable, this is an excellent book as is Crochet Lace Innovations by Doris Chan--both offer very different things that will definitely open you up creatively....I got both here in Amazon. :)
Very interesting and exciting patterns...but the yarn for these are mostly lace or nearly lace with many many yards needed. These are heirloom peices that will take a huge investment of time and money...but they certainly look worth it.
I have made every single pattern in this book, And had a lot of fun doing so. It is a must have book.
