Devoted: The Story of a Father's Love for His Son Reviews
A great book, an even greater story of love and heroism. If you want to shed a tear, and be inspired--read this. It is a story about a relationship between a father and son that not only proves that modern medicine knows little about what is actually going on in the mind of those horribly afflicted and physically handicapped at birth. By that I mean; physicians and counselors told this man his son would never be anything but a limited human, probably nothing more than one degree above a vegetable. Instead of accepting that, this man and his wife chose to ignore that prognosis, and raise their son like any other child. The result is portrayed in this story, along with the full spectrum of positives and negatives. It is a story about unwavering love, and how that can defy all odds to open the life of a young child placed on this earth to teach us something. Most never open their eyes to see what lessons we are to learn from the handicapped. Most never listen to the message of the heart. This father did, and it is an amazing story that is very well told. One last thing--watch the HBO documentary on this father and son.
Wow, I was one of the folks who was inspired by Team Hoyt to throw on a cheap pair of running shoes and head out the door and just run. I have a copy of
If you know anything about the Hours, you will continue to be moved by their story of love, patience, perseverance, and kindness. They are truly amazing, and I think of them often when I don't feel like running. Dick and Rick would want me too! Great read.
This was a terrific book about family, love, sacrifice and perseverance! A must read... Also like a motivational book. Rick and Dick are true inspirations! I would not be surprised if Disney make a movie about this book. Disability awareness at its finest. Every high school student should be required to read this to graduate. I hope he writes more books. I love Team Hoyt.
It is an amazing story. We may sometimes think that a disabled person takes a lot of time, money and care is it worth all the effort? Learning about Rick it most certainly is. He has reached and taught so many people yes you can never give up. Please read you will enjoy it, it will touch yo
This is an awesome man, but the book fell short for me. I really expected more about them personally, and it is more about the prep and doing the marathons, etc. than actually their day to day life. I agree he is very inspirational--I love the folks--but I suppose I expected more about getting through day to day struggles than prepping for the marathons.
Inspiring story!! The book itself is well-written and a quick read. I highly recommend to everyone; you do not have to be an athlete to appreciate what Dick and Rick have accomplished together.
